So, for the record I had a perfectly working install of Tumbleweed on my laptop, previously installed with apparmor on it before they switched to SELinux. Everything was working great, including games like Magic: The Gathering Arena. But, as a good Linux tester (especially on behalf of openSUSE) that will never do. I’ve been hearing complaints about SELinux not letting games run, even after the fix was pushed (selinux-policy-targeted-gaming). So, I reinstalled a new install of Tumbleweed on my perfectly working laptop to try it out, and kick the tires as it were.

As you can see from the above two screen captures I have Tumbleweed running with SELinux running, active, and enforcing. The current SELinux settings are the default settings that Tumbleweed set during the install.
I then installed Steam with sudo zypper in steam, and let it do what it did by default. The package selinux-policy-targeted-gaming is installed by default with the steam install. this package changes the policy of SELinux to allow gaming with Steam, Lutris, and Wine as far as I know. Once inside Steam, I installed Magic: The Gathering Arena as I have done many times before. Once done, all that is left in the testing process is to run Magic: The Gathering Arena and see if it launches or runs.
In the end, it ran like a charm. Every bit as good as it did before with apparmor. In closing, I see no need to avoid SELinux on Tumbleweed in favor of apparmor, at least as far as gaming goes. I’ll be testing other games out in the near future as well as running steam connect for remote gaming. I’ll report on that soon.
